Management To Resolve KNUST Hostel Fee Crisis

Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has said it has began consultation with regulators of private hostels who have increased their prices.

Reacting to the agitation of students over the hike in prices of hostel fees, the management said those hostels do not form a part of the Private Hostels Association which has an engagement with the Dean of students in fixing their prices.

According to a statement the Management of the school issued, the off-campus hostels which aren’t part of the Private Hostels Association have increased hostel cost between 20 and 94% .

They however admitted that the members of the Private Hostels Association have increased their prices but at an agreed percentage not exceeding 12.

It also noted that those identified off-campus hostels are being engaged by the Dean of students to resolve and arrive at a possible reduction.

It also revealed that the construction of an on-campus hostel is underway.

It finally urged students to use appropriate means to relay their petitions.

On July 16th, 2021, some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology hit the street to make known, the high prices of hostel fees.
