KuYA Calls Out GJA, Media Houses Over Chieftaincy Rivalry Assertions Between “Master & Subject”

The Kumasi Youth Association (KuYA) has called out the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) led by Affail Monney and some media houses for creating the impression that there is a “simmering conflict between His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and Dormaahene, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu II”.

The group referenced headlines of Starr FM and the Chronicle Newspaper purporting that impression and described them as reckless and irresponsible.

“ “ASANTEHENE, DORMAAHENE FIGHTS OVER HISTORY AND POWER” The Chronicle Newspaper and “IF YOU ARE A MAN, I’M ALSO A MAN” Starr FM “, the group referenced.

These have not gone down well with the youth of Kumasi who says it’s unfortunate.

“It is rather unfortunate that some media houses sought to play mischief intentionally wanted to acrimonize, and distort the Asante history with unworthy headlines which misrepresent the comments of the Occupant of the Golden Stool as banter or conflict with the Chief of Dormaa.”

The GJA in a press release cautioning media houses in their reportage on the issue said, “the media must be part of the solution and not part of a chieftaincy clash of staggering magnitude”.

This was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

“We ask, which conflict are the GJA talking about?”, the group questioned.

According to the KuYA, there can never be a rivalry between the overlord of the Asante kingdom, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and his subject, the Dormaahene Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II.

The statements of the King which have been taken out of context only reminded that paramount Asante chiefs who are in regions outside the Ashanti region, still owe allegiance to the golden stool, the group explained.

“We wish to use this opportunity to advise all the members of GJA led by Mr. Affail Monney and other media houses to be circumspect in their headlines and reportage devoid of sensationalism.

“HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene is known across the globe to be a peace-loving King, so there is no way he would have a conflict with his subjects or any other group”, the statement added.
