Kumasi Central Market: Next Phase Demolition On September 12

The Local Consultant of Contractor Company Limited in charge of the Kumasi Central Market construction, Mr. Emmanuel Danso has stated that the 3rd and 4th phases of the Kumasi Central Market will be demolished on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
In an interview on Opemsuo Radio on Friday, September 10th, 2021, he disclosed that the Government has given an ultimatum that the market should be demolished on Sunday.
The Local Consultant added that the drainage system has been a major challenge in the market over the years.
“There has not been a change in the initial plan but according to the allocation site, the construction was supposed to be in phases but it will be difficult for us to trace the drainage system if we go by that.
“The Ministry of Local Government backed by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has instructed me to work, so I can never refuse them,” he said.
According to the Local Consultant, construction of the market started on May 2nd, 2019 when President Akuffo-Addo and Asantehene, Otumfou Osei Tutu ll cut sod for the construction of the Market”.
“Because of the delay in the construction, the Government has been paying an accumulated interest rate,” he added.
“It is my duty as a Local Consultant to demolish the market on the said day, where traders will relocate to is also the duty of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly,” the he said.
