Kasoa Protests Over Poor Roads

Residents of Kasoa in the Central Region have hit the streets to demand better road infrastructure.

Hundreds of people went onto the streets with red head and armbands to register their disapproval at the “life-threatening” state of the Accra-Kasoa highway.

Demonstrators communicated their grievances through the placards they displaced.

One placard read, “Drivers are suffering.” “No action, talk only,” another held out while an eye-catching one read, “My girl left me b’cos of poor road. #fixkasoaroads.”

The demonstration dubbed, “Fix Kasoa Highway” did not come without a brunt. Videos on social media showed heavy vehicular traffic on the highway as the road had been blocked due to the protest.

The situation forced passengers to alight and continue their journey on foot. One video sighted by opemsuo.com on Twitter showed a swarm of passengers treading on foot after alighting from their respective vehicles. Some appeared furious at the situation while others looked unperturbed.

Highlighting their grievances in a petition to the Municipal Assembly, the protesters are quoted to have said, “It becomes more than difficult to commute on the Kasoa-Accra Highway anytime it rains due to the large volumes of silt deposited on the road. The situation is always life-threatening… There are even cases where people have died as a result of the situation.”
