John Kumah Denies Saying “One Risks Being Arrested Over Rejection Of MoMo” Due To E-levy

Deputy Finance Minister, John Ampontuah Kumah has debunked reports quoting him to have said “business owners who refuse to accept MOMO because of E-levy will be arrested”.

“I never said Business owners who refuse to accept MOMO because of E-Levy will be arrested”, he said.

According to him, the information making the rounds is “false and misleading”.

“This information is false and misleading since I never uttered the words that are being attributed to me. This can only be the handiwork of people who are bent on creating public dissatisfaction towards Government and the E-levy.

“I entreat the media to always double check and make sure they source their information from credible sources”, he tweeted.

In an earlier interview, while touching on concerns that some business owners have instituted directives against transactions using Mobile Money due to the Electronic Transfer levy, John kumah said doing such a thing is against the law.

“Aside from the fact that it is against the law, it doesn’t suggest you are a good citizen”.

“We can report you if you refuse to accept it”, he added.
