Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced an IAF helicopter has clashed with India’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat on board.
The accident took place today, December 8, 2021, near Coonoor, a municipality in India.
The helicopter has been identified as an Mi-17V5 helicopter.
Although the cause of the accident is not immediately known, IAF says an inquiry has been instituted to ascertain that.
IAF tweeted, “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.
An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
Indian Politician, Rahul Gandhi has tweeted Gen. Bipin Rawat was not alone but on board with his wife and others.
He tweeted, “Hoping for the safety of CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and others on board the chopper.
Prayers for a speedy recovery.”
The degree of injuries is not immediately known.
However, CNN reports that three people have been rescued so far and moved to a hospital, according to public broadcaster Doordarshan.
