Immediately Declare Your Assets; CHRAJ to Public Officers

The Commission on Human Rights Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has charged public officers to as a matter of urgency declare their assets in compliance with Article 284 of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

This fold particularly targets new government officials and the members of the ninth Parliament.

The Commission from observation stated that most public officers are ignorant of the code of conduct occasioning all manner of unethical conduct and behaviour.

It thereby urged “public officers of the new government and the ninth Parliament in particular and all public officers generally to take immediate steps to apprise themselves of the Code of Conduct and to declare their assets in accordance with law before taking office”.

The code enjoins public officials to submit to the Auditor-General a written declaration of all properties or assets owned by, or liabilities owed by, them directly or indirectly within three months after the coming into force of this Constitution or before taking office.

This must be done at the end of every four years and at the end of their term of office.

Meanwhile, it has called on the government to take steps to prioritize the passage of the Conduct of Public Officers Bill.
