I’m The Only One Who Can Fix Ghana; Hopeful 2024 Independent Presidential Candidate

Kofi Koranteng, a hopeful independent candidate for the 2024 General elections, has asserted that he is the only hope for Ghana’s economic crisis.

He indicated in an interview with the interim host for Opemsuo radio’s Morning Show, George Kwabena Kyeremateng, that the vice president who doubles as the Chairman for the Economic Management Team (EMT) will do worse as president looking at his track record in economic management.

“There is confirmation that the Economic Management Team has failed. If (Bawumia) have failed in the vice presidency, (Bawumia) will be worse as a president”.

He stated that Ghana is heading towards a “demographic catastrophe” and on that note, threw a challenge to three prominent presidential aspirants for the 2024 election including Alan Kyerematen, Mahamudu Bawumia, and John Dramani Mahama to unveil their plans toward clearing the country’s debt.

Koranteng plans to tackle the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, Agriculture, and the size of the Government in transforming the crises of the country into fortunes.

Constitution
The first panacea to the country’s problems, Koranteng says, will be changing the 1992 constitution.

“One of the first things we will do is to change the constitution. The constitution needs to change because the constitution has created room for the leaders to take undue advantage to benefit from the loopholes. Apart from corruption, Ghanaians are very wasteful.”

According to him, amending the constitution will be akin to stitching a piece of new cloth on an old garment, which will eventually result in the patch pulling away from the garment to worsen the shred.

“There might be a repetition of some of the phrases but the body of the constitution has to change and conform to everything. Weak links must be taken out to embolden the document.”

Agriculture
He said that initiatives of governments both in the past and current, create liabilities for the country leaving an inheritance of debt for successive governments to pay.

“Our debt stock is always rising. I can promise to build E-block, construct roads, and all sorts of things but after doing all that, the country will be taken out of my hands because I am building the country with debt. I am not using internally generated income which makes that a problem. Right now, our income source is loans and this means that you will have to pay the loan as well as interest.”

Kofi Koranteng however says he intends to prey on agriculture in offsetting Ghana’s GHc400 billion debt when elected as president of Ghana in the next general elections.

“We are looking at agriculture because we do not have the industries. We need to feed our industries with our agro-based products so that we give our primary products’ value.”

Government Ministries
The hopeful presidential aspirant seeks to reduce the size of government drastically starting from the Ministries.

He hopes to create just ten Ministries with twenty Ministers.

“There is no money and we won’t go in for loans so we will shrink the government to save much money to develop the country. We will do all the work required. We will make use of graduates.”

According to him, twenty ministers are enough to fix the country because the number is “science-based, data-driven and human-centred”.
