Illegal Mining: 100 Persons Undergo Training To Protect Rivers
One hundred (100) Ghanaians from various parts of the country have begun training to become river guards in Ghana, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has relayed.
The 100 trainees are the first batch of some 300 expected to undergo the training.
The recruits are receiving training from the Eastern Naval Command.
They will undergo a month of training after which they will work as river guards conducting patrol activities on the various river bodies, the Ministry said.
This is a means of clamping down on illegal mining activities on Ghana’s water bodies.
The trainees were handed over to Eastern Naval Command today by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission.
They will be equipped with skills in speedboat operation, swimming, among others.
The Ministry added that speedboats needed for their operation after the training are ready.
