I Think About The Next Generation Not The Next Election-Asantehene

His Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed concerns about national security issues in Ghana calling for support from the United States in terms of training for security personnel.

He stated that peace is an important topic for advancement and even though chiefs hold non-political positions they play a role in contributing to a peaceful setting.

The revelation was made during the U.S Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Virginia E. Palmer’s visit to the palace.

He said as the government drives the nation chiefs also serve as the catalyst for development.

“We are non-political, from this position I think about my people and I think about the next generation and not the next elections and therefore whatever it is that I can do in relation to peace and harmony creating employment for the people. I’m just a humble servant sitting here but thinking about Ghana and my people. Chieftaincy has a role to play, ours is to make sure that we serve as catalysts for development in this country.

“Fortunately in Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo there’s peace and therefore I don’t have any problem. There are other sections also creating unnecessary apprehension for the country. Bawku is one area.

“My fear is that because of what is happening at Burkina Faso and others the border is porous and therefore if we’re not careful porosity of the border will hinge on and come back to Ghana and we don’t have the ability to do the surveillance in terms of drones to check what is happening”.

“That’s something that I’ll count on your support with national security to support them to be able to do that and therefore give proper intelligence training to our people to see how best we can control our border. With all the terrorist attacks in Mali, for now, we’ve not had it but for how long, so we need to be proactive now with the support that we can get, Otumfuo stated.”
