Govt Suspends LI To Ban ‘Yemuadie’

The Minister for Information Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed that, government has suspended the Legislative Instrument (L.I) seeking to ban importation of ‘Yemuadie’ and 22 other restricted items.

Speaking to the press, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said this suspension is to enable the various stakeholders who still have outstanding issues, have them resolved before the next line of action.

According to the minister, a lot of consultations have taken place with the various stakeholders.

Initially, the minority gave an assurance to the minister but because it is an L I, parliament cannot ammend when it is laid before it. Therefore, there is a need for the minister to have more engagement with the industry players in oder to arrive at a conclusion.

He further said that the idea is to boost local production but it is important to seek the views of all stakeholders.
