How Bawumia Intends To Make Passport Acquisition Easier With Ghana Card
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has noticed the hurdles that come with the acquisition of a passport in Ghana despite the digitalized process and is bent on simplifying it to the easiest point with the existence of the Ghana Card.
According to him, Ghanaians in the future will be able to apply for passports in the comfort of their homes and have them delivered when processed and printed without going through the hustle of visiting passport centres.
He notes that this is possible due to the fact that the Ghana Card has all the requisite data for passport application.
Speaking at the 57th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on November 24, he acknowledged, “Getting passports has always been something very mysterious in Ghana. There is a hustle that people go through just to get a passport. When we were doing the Ghana Card, I took my time and asked for the passport application form and I looked at it and said lets make sure every information we need for a passport is also on the Ghana Card. The application form for the Ghana Card contains all the information that you are required to get a passport.”
He assured that his team is working on disrupting this process with digitalization but gave no timeline for its completion and piloting.
“If you have a Ghana Card, you don’t need to go and apply again for a passport. All you need is to pay your fees, they have your biometrics and they will deliver your passport to your digital address at your home {when printed}.
