Hostel Housing KNUST Students Razed by Fire
A fire that started in one room at the Father Hostel in Ayeduase has razed down at least nine rooms of the hostel.
The fire is reported to have started on Friday dawn at the residential building housing students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Though no casualty was recorded, students lost their belongings and the places they lay their heads.
Confirming the news, the President of the Student’s Representative Council, Yvonne Osei Adobea said it occurred at dawn and took the intervention of the KNUST Fire Department to douse it.
“It is with much sadness that the KNUST SRC informs students of a fire outbreak that occurred this dawn at a hostel named Father Hostel in Ayeduase. Thankfully, no students were injured, and the affected individuals are safe, though further confirmation is pending.”
She said the Council had arranged for a temporary accommodation for the affected students at the SRC hostel.
She added, “Students are urged to follow safety protocols.”
Meanwhile, a victim of the fire identified as Teaching Assistant at the Physics department told campus blog Watsuptek that he was woken by other occupants of the hostel.
“I was asleep when I heard them knocking at my door so I woke up put on a shirt and went to see who was there. On opening the door, I saw thick smoke bellowing and run out. I didn’t take anything. Right after that the fire started spreading.
He said he lost his phone, laptop and certificate to the fire.
