Henry Kokofu: Father’s Day Is A Wake Up Call To Incapable Fathers

The CEO of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu has stated that, Father’s Day as set aside for the celebration of fathers is a sign of a wakeup call to incompetent fathers.

He says Father’s Day which is of good importance helps create a platform for men who have failed in the performance of their fatherly duties to change for the better.

“It is a good move for a day to be set aside for the celebration of fathers.”

“We have some fathers who do not deserve to be called fathers all because they refuse to care for their wards be it schooling, clothing, food and their wellbeing in general, which means nothing about their children matters to them whilst such responsibilities are left to the mothers alone. If you’re one of those, this must send a signal to you that you are not a good father.”

He added that as affectionate messages are being shared on the Day, it serves as a reminder to irresponsible fathers to take up manly duties for the betterment of their wards and the nation.”
“Father’s day serves as a reminder to those of the bad kind to improve on their fatherly responsibilities as others are receiving lovely messages because they have shown great fatherly duties.”

“Some fathers have also done their part as fathers yet are refused to be celebrated on the day.”

He made the remarks as the world marks the remembrance of Fathers on June 19, 2022.

Dr. Henry Kokofu mentioned that it includes a father’s duty to cater for a child he brings forth till a certain stage and that it isn’t mandatory by law for a child to reciprocate the act. However morally, a child is expected to return the treatment given him or her by his or her father.

“It’s your responsibility as a father to cater for your ward, it’s also a child’s responsibility to also care for his or her parents too even though it’s not mandatory but as you were taken care of from childhood to adulthood it’ll be pleasing to God for you to care for your guardians in their old age.”

Father’s Day is a day set aside to honour fatherhood and their contribution to the community.
