Road Toll Directive: Hawkers Protest Over Tollbooth Closure

The removal of the road tolls has met mixed reactions following the announcement by the Finance minister, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta yesterday.

While drivers seem to be in full support of the directive, hawkers, and toll collectors have expressed disappointment in the government.

A day after the announcement was made, the policy took effect.

Hawkers at the Moreee junction on the Cape Coast-Accra highway are clad in red bands protesting the government’s new policy, according to a video released by 3news and sighted by opemsuo.com.

Items ranging from bread, water, groundnut, kenkey, etc. were lined up along the almost-dormant road for sale.

The traders indicated that the closure of the tollbooth meant a shut-down of their source of livelihood.

The angry traders reiterated their disappointment in the government.
