Guinea Prepares For Transition To Democracy


Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has disclosed Guinea junta is preparing to cross over to a civilian rule.
This follows Nana Addo’s visit to the military junta on 16th September 2021 to negotiate the release of their ousted president, Alpha Conde and return the country to a democratic rule.
On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, President Akufo-Addo received a three-member delegation from the Guinean military junta; the National Committee for Reconciliation and Development (CNRD), at Jubilee House, Accra.
The delegation was led by Colonel Sadiba Koulibaly, Second-in-Command of the CNRD, updated the ECOWAS Chair on the roadmap that has been put in place to ensure a smooth transition and return to constitutional rule in Guinea.
On Sunday, September 5, 2021, 83-year-old President of Guinea, Alpha Conde, was ousted by the military led by Lieutenant-Colonel Mamady Doumbouya.
