GRIDCo & ECG: Accra Won’t Experience 84 Days Of Dumsor

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company Limited (ECG) have debunked media reports that Accra will experience power outages, known as Dumsor for the next eighty-four days.

The Dumsor claim came on the back of GRIDCo’s recent announcement of the commencement of the reconstruction of the transmission lines from Achimota to Mallam Substation.

In a joint statement from the ECG and GRIDCo however, the report was dispelled.

“While we confirm the reconstruction work on our transmission lines has commenced since Saturday y April 9, 2022, we wish to assure the public that the ongoing work will not lead to any DUMSOR.”

It recalled that the first phase of the reconstruction exercise of the transmission line from Mallam Substation to Avenor was undertaken successfully in November 2021 without “significant” disruption to power delivery in Accra and its environs.

“Phase 2 of the exercise from Achimota substation to Avenor will similarly not disrupt power delivery in Accra.

“As part of measures to improve power delivery in Accra and its environs, GRIDCo and ECG have commissioned the Pokuase and Kasoa Substations.”

Additionally, it said the bulk supply points of Kasoa, Mallam, Accra Central, Pokuase, and Achimota Substation have enough transformer capacities to meet the desired demand without any curtailment or load shedding.
