Govt Clarifies ₵2.7billion Allocated to Presidency

The Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has provided clarity to the ₵2.7 billion allocation to the office of the President in the 2025 Budget statement.

In a pre-recorded broadcast he said the amount reflects the salaries of civil servants of all 30 state agencies that operated under the collapsed Ministries.

“Because President Mahama reduced the number of Ministers from 30 to 23, some agencies that used to operate under the collapsed Ministries have been moved to the Office for the President for budgetary purposes.”

He said such agencies include the National Security Secretariat, the Research Department, the National Signals Bureau, the National Intelligence Bureau, the Ghana News Agency, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, and the Information Services Department.

“The staff of these organisations are Civil Servants who have to be paid…The Civil servants under these organisations’ salary have to be catered for…The salaries of these staff are being catered for under the office of the President. So it is the salaries of these persons that are being catered for under the Office of the President.

“So when you see ₵2.7billion, it’s the salaries of these staff plus all the other agencies that form the office of government machinery that is reflected in that number. The GBC has 1,115 staff. The Information Services Department has 1,309 stuff, and the GNA has 133 staff. When put together it’s 2,557 staff. This is for 2025 it’s being catered for through the Office of the President. They will be paid by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department as all other Civil Servants.”
