Gold Refinery Owner, Two Others Remanded Over Scam And Robbery
Three persons have been remanded into police custody by the Accra Circuit Court 10 for their alleged involvement in a scam and robbery.
The three namely George Essandor Akron, owner of SSL Gold refinery, Kelvin Prince Boakye and Joy Kwame Genu were arrested on different occasions and charged with conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and possession of a firearm without lawful authority.
Per a police account, Kelvin Prince Boakye was the first to be arrested on November 18 following a police investigation into a gold scam and robbery incident in Accra on November 8, 2022.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Joy Kwame Genu on November 29 and George Essandor Akron on December 2.
Following their arrests, the police retrieved one (1) unlicensed Bruni pistol with three (3) live 9mm ammunition, two (2) bulletproof vests, one (1) ballistic helmet, and two stunt guns, among others from the suspects.
On November 24, Kelvin was remanded into police custody by the circuit court to reappear on December 13.
George and Joy were arraigned on December 5, 2022, and remanded into Police custody to reappear on December 20.
