GHS: 245 Students Contract COVID-19

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says two hundred and forty-five cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in about thirteen schools in the Country.

The cases, he said, are all in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana-the hotspot of the disease- but the GHS is of the view that the outbreak in schools goes beyond what has so far been reported.

Out of the 245 cases among the schools, 134 have recovered with 111 active cases and no death.

“Some schools have closed down temporarily to control the spread”, the GHS disclosed.

Nationally, the GHS said there is an increasing number of reported cases of COVID-19 in the country mainly taking place in schools and workplaces.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Kuma Aboagye said confirmed cases of covid as of June 20, 2022, are 164,843; total tests done are 2,468,433; total recoveries are 161,978; total death is 1,448; active cases are 1,417; severe cases are 14 and Critical cases stand at 3.

He said the outbreak is being driven by the Omicron sub-variant BA.4 and BA.5.

Recent deaths from Covid numbers 4. The four included a 43-year-old female, 18year old man, a 63-year-old man and an 83-year-old man.

15 regions have active cases except the Savannah Region, the GHS noted.
