Ghanaians Were Scared: Cheddar On Opting For Foreign Spokesperson
The leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako popularly known as Cheddar says he settled on a foreigner as a spokesperson for his movement after all attempts to get a Ghanaian proved futile.
The spokesperson of the New Force Movement, Shalimar Abbiusi, a Belgian, addressed the country for the first time on November 24, 2023. She was the first official of the Movement to unveil herself to the public after advertisements on Billboards.
In an interview, the founder of the movement said choosing the foreigner who was later extradited was the only option he had left.
According to him, all Ghanaians he approached rejected the offer due to fear.
“We tried so many people to be the spokesperson but they were all scared, they didn’t want to use their faces. We were struggling…They all refused…either they were scared…that’s the kind of feeling I was getting from people. We never heard from them again.”
Narrating his first encounter with Shalimar, he said, the Belgian was already resident in the country for three years as a presenter.
“Shalimar was a girl that had been in the country for three years. She worked for GHOne. She is a presenter and a model…She had been going up and down in the country for three good years before I met her. I only met her at Mepe when we went to make some donations.
“She was also there to make a donation. I met her through Hon Ablakwa. We started talking after and she asked what she could do for us when she found out what we were doing as Movement.”
He used the occasion to invite on board all interested Ghanaians to join the force to assist with their expertise.
“Anything you can do, you are welcome to come and help us.”
Shalimar was deported in December after she was arrested and accused of violating section 52 (1) (i) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573), specifically “Obtaining for Yourself a Student Permit by False Declaration” but has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
