GFA Charges Former ExCo Member over Referee Hanson’s “Dirty Works” Post
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged former Executive Council member, Sammy Anim Addo, over a social media post about leadership of the FA and a match official.
In his post, Anim Addo accused the GFA of using referee Maxwell Hanson for “dirty works”.
His rant followed Accra Lions’ outburst over “unprofessional” officiation by Referee Hanson during their 1-0 loss to Dreams FC on Sunday.
“Maxwell Hanson is their man for ‘dirty works’. I sounded the alarm bells months ago, but I was vehemently challenged with every attempt to ‘shush’ me by the leadership of Ghana Football… His disgraceful conduct undermines the league’s quality,” Anim Addo posted on X.
Additionally, he alleged that he had been threatened with relegation of Young Apostles- his club- which was promoted into the GPL last season.
“I have been threatened many times already that this GFA administration will ensure foul means to relegate my club, Young Apostles. But I want to sound caution to them that it is not the worst they can do to me and my continuous investment and commitment to Ghana football.”
The Disciplinary Committee of the FA in a notice to him on January 9, 2025, said his conduct constituted misconduct, and dragged the game of the GFA and the Ghana Premier League (GPL) into “disrepute”.
“It further alleged that parts of his commentary involved accusations against march officials without proof. He has until Monday, January 13, 2025, to respond to the charges,” the notice read in part.
