GAA Welcomes Martha Bissah After 5 Years Suspension

Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has pardoned Martha Bissah after she was suspended indefinitely by the association in 2016 for misconduct.

The female athlete extended an unqualified apology to GAA and its former President, Prof. Francis Dodoo in a letter dated November 19, 2021.

Following the receipt of the letter, the executive committee of the association met on November 26 to deliberate on the apology.

“GAA accepts Martha Bissah’s apology…Martha’s suspension is lifted with immediate effect and she is warmly welcomed into the athletics family in Ghana”, a statement from GAA said.

GAA is hopeful Bissah will compete in the imminent domestic competition in 2022.

GAA is also grateful to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Yussif and Director General of NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi for their intervention in the impasse and for their role in arriving at an amicable solution.

Bissah was suspended by the GAA for misconduct two years after she won a gold medal in the girls’ 800m race at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics.
