Foreign Affairs Ministry Probes Claims That Foreigners Hold Ghanaian Passport

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced it has begun investigations into allegations that some foreign nationals in the United Arab Emirate and some Gulf States hold Ghanaian passports.

According to the Ministry, appropriate steps will be taken if the allegations are found true.

Nevertheless, the Ministry defended that the enrolment of the biometric passport in Ghana makes it difficult for unqualified persons to acquire the Ghanaian passport.

“Indeed there have been a number of instances where the Ministry in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service and other law enforcement agencies have apprehended some individuals for attempting to acquire a Ghanaian passport. These cases have been successfully prosecuted and appropriate sanctions have been applied to the culprits”, it said.

The ministry, therefore, cautioned against “unfounded claims on social media concerning foreigners acquiring Ghanaian passports”.
