Sammy Gyamfi, Neat FM Retract And Apologise To Samira Over Make-up Allegation

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi and Neat FM have retracted and apologised to Second Lady Samira Bawumia for an “untrue” allegation the former made.

The apology and retraction came right after Samira through her lawyers wrote to Despite Group of Companies- the mother organisation of Neat FM- to demand an apology and retraction of the allegation.

Sammy Gyamfi, while on one of the shows of Neat FM- a subsidiary of the Despite Group of Companies- reportedly alleged the convoy of the Second lady includes a vehicle that carries her make-up products and her make-up artiste.

“There’s another person; Samira Bawumia, do you know her convoy includes a brand new Landcruiser carrying makeup; makeup artiste; it follows her everywhere. Who’s paying for that, the taxpayer,” he is quoted by a section of blogs to have said on Neat FM’s Me Man Nti programme.

In a letter to the Despite Group, Samira’s lawyers indicated that the allegation is “false.”

“We have the instruction of our client to state that the aforementioned statement which unfortunately casts her in the minds of Ghanaians as insensitive, wasteful and unreasonable, is NOT TRUE. She therefore categorically denies the said statement.”

According to her, it was unfair for the host of the programme to allow the politician continue with the allegation without demanding any evidence or a retraction and, therefore, demanded an unqualified apology and retraction of the statement by the radio station on the next edition of the programme.

On Wednesday, while hosting Sammy Gyamfi on the show, he admitted the allegation is unfounded and untrue.

“Lawyer Kwame Twum- a very intelligent fellow who works with the current Second Lady- called me after my interview and told me the allegation is untrue. I believe Kwame so I decided to retract the statement the next time I came on your show,” he told the host, Adakabre Frimpong.

He added, “The convoy of the second lady doesn’t have any Land Cruiser that carries along her make-up products….There is nothing like that according to the Office of the Second Lady and it is only fair that I retract. My apologies to the Second Lady.”

A visibly disturbed Adakabre Frimpong, the host, followed suit saying, “We are very sorry for that.”
