FDA Laboratory Attains International Recognition
The Centre for Laboratory Services and Research (CLSR) of Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has received international recognition after successfully completing an assessment by the National Accreditation Board (ANAB) of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
The FDA said the laboratory increased its ISO testing scope effective June 3, 2022.
This means that the FDA has met internationally accepted scientific laboratory practices which also allows the allow it to issue Export Certificates which will be internationally recognised.
“To this end, locally manufactured products like foods, drugs, medical devices, herbal medicines and household chemical substances that are certified by the FDA, would be considered as having met international standards and be a game-changer in the advancement of the Africa Continent Free Trade Area protocol”.
This also makes Ghana’s FDA laboratory’s ISO the largest in Africa.
“The FDA now has fifty-five parameters, seven more than the previous forty-eight parameters. The seven comprises five parameters in the Food Physicochemical laboratory and two for Pharmaceutical Microbiology laboratory.”
The CLSR consists of six (6) laboratories namely Drug Physicochemical, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Cosmetic and Household Chemical Substances, Medical Devices and Food Physicoxhemical laboratories.
