FDA Cautions Against Injections For Skin Lightening

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the general public against substances in the form of injections which are being promoted on social media for skin lightening and bleaching, correction of uneven skin tone, and reduction of blemish.
According to the FDA, none of such injectable substances and glutathione has been approved clinically by their outfit to guarantee their effectiveness.
“Injectable glutathione poses a significant safety risk to users as its side effect include toxic effect on the liver, kidneys and nervous system, and a serious skin reaction known as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome”, a statement from the FDA revealed and added that they may also pose a risk of skin cancer.
Additionally, it said administering such injections without medical certification may lead to the transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis C, and B.
The FDA, therefore, advised that persons consult medical professionals before using such products.
It further urged the general public to report the sale of glutathione injectable products or any unregistered product to the FDA.
