EPL Describes Burkina Coup As “Fight For Real Democracy & Good Governance”

The Economic Fighters League (EPL) has described the recent coup d’etat in Ghana’s immediate neighbour to the north as a fight for democracy and good governance.

“We stand with them to achieve this goal”, the radical Nkrumaist movement mobilising people at the grassroots to achieve economic freedom for all has said.

The group opined that the Kabóre regime replicated the oppression the Burkinabé suffered under “dictator” Blaise Compaoré, who was ousted in a popular uprising in October 2014.

Nonetheless, EPL cautioned the military junta led by Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Danica to serve the interest of the people of Burkina Faso.

“We remind the Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Danica and his military that their mandate is to serve the People and as such all their actions as a state institution must solely be in the interest of and reflecting the will of the People.

“The ongoing events must be in the service of a popular reclamation of power and not the shifting of power to military rule as has been the case in countless previous instances, most recently Mali and Sudan”, it said.

Reports spread that Burkina Faso’s President Roch Marc Christian Kabore was detained by mutinying soldiers yesterday. These reports were followed by an announcement by the military on state television that Kabore’s government had been toppled.
