ECG To Clamp Down On Customers In Arrears

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has served noticed to the public about its decision to embark on a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise later this month.

 

The exercise will last for a month beginning on March 20 and ending on April 20.

 

During the period, all categories of ECG customers including State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in arrears will have their meters disconnected.

 

It added that “recalcitrant customers who have refused to redeem their indebtedness to the company after they have been served with Final Demand notice will be arraigned before the court of law.”

 

In the course of the exercise, ECG head offices, regional offices district offices will all be shut for top management ans staff participation.

 

Only customer service centres will remain open to the public.

 

Disconnected customers will have to pay a re-connection fee to be re-connected after payment of their debts, the Company stated.

 

The ECG notes that the exercise will be monitored by Special teams who will apprehend and prosecute customers who will attempt to interfere in the exercise and/or undertake illegal self-reconnection after disconnection.
