EC Hasn’t Given Us Copies Of Provisional Register- Dafeamekpor
The Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor has alleged the Electoral Commission (EC) has flouted Regulation 22(2) of Constitutional Instrument (CI) 91 as amended by CI 126 despite the commencement of the voters’ register exhibition.
He asserts that none of the 27 political parties in the country have been passed a copy of the provisional register and therefore accused the EC of being “lawless”.
The Regulation reads, “At the end of compilation of provisional register as provided in sub-regulation (1), a copy of the provisional shall be given to each registered political party in the form determined by the Commission.”
In a post on X, Dafeamekpor said, “I can confirm that NDC & other parties not in Govt have not received copies of the Provisional Register contrary to Reg 22(2) of CI 91 as amended by CI 126 yet EC is proceeding to exhibit the Provisional Voters Register tomorrow. When shall EC lawlessness end?”
The EC has yet to respond to the allegation.
The EC will today, November 3, begin the exhibition of the voters’ register at 38,622 polling stations in the country.
The exhibition will span for five days beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. each day. The exercise will afford voters the opportunity to verify their details including name, age and gender and input the necessary rectification. It will also keep prospective voters abreast with the location of their polling station.
