CETAG Threatens to Resume Strike

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) is bent on resuming their strike action a month after it was called off to make way for implementation of an agreed roadmap towards the resolution of their grievances.

A spokesperson for CETAG has revealed the roadmap has been defied by the government representative and thereby their resolve to resume the industrial action.

The Association says it will stage a new strike next week if their demands are not met by the close of this week.

“The timeline that we agreed upon which the strike was called off has still not been done. Now, they promised us that by the first week of September, we would have gotten the offline data coming into the college. And then every member in the colleges of education will see where we have been placed by way of the migration and then also check our biodata. But as I speak, we don’t know why they hide the migration offline data.

“Also, they promised us that when the strike is called off, by the end of August, we are going to get the all-year-round compensation for work done in 2022. But as I speak to you right now, we have not received our money. They keep telling us that the money will come in their GIFMIS account, but it keeps disappointing and as I speak to you now, we have not gotten our money. This is why we are saying that if by the end of this week, nothing is heard, we are going to have a full-blown strike,” he is quoted to have said by CNR.

But in an interview with JoyNews, Prof Charles Adabo, Director of the Grievances and Negotiations at the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) noted that the migration of the details of all eligible colleges of education teachers takes time.

According to him, the migration process is yet to be completed. When done, he said, the leadership of CETAG would be updated before it is forwarded to the Ministry of Education and subsequently the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

“Currently, the migration is about coming to an end which will then pave the way for implementation so those who qualify will then be given the salaries due them in respect of public university policy structure.”
