Bekwai NPP Primaries: Joewise contender to run as Independent candidate?


 
 
Private legal practitioner and a member of the governing New Patrotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Amofo Agyemang, disqualified to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries in the Bekwai Constituency still holds ambition to run to become MP in the December 7 polls despite his disqualification against the incumbent MP, Hon. Joseph Osei-Wusu popularly known as Joewise.
“I will still persue the interest of Bekwai people. I am not into politics for any bad reason neither do I want to enrich myself but because of the people in my Constituency”, the aggrieved NPP member fumed on Manhyia-based Opemsuo FM morning show hosted by George Opoku Mensah Agudey.
This comes less than twenty-four hours, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of NPP took a sharp decision to declare the MP for the area and the First Deputy Speaker of Parliment, Hon. Joseph Osei-Wusu as a sole candidate in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
“This cannot be democracy! … though, some elders of the party are still talking to me as to why they are taking such a decision but I will have to consult my followers in the Constituency and see the last line of my action”, Lawyer Amofo Agyemang stated.
According to a Deputy General Secretary of NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party took a decision to protect some MPs like Hon. Joseph Osei-Wusu having a leadership role in parlimentary.
“Sometimes as party, we must take such a painful decision to protect MPs who are serving the party better in Parliament.”, he explained on Nkwantanan” show.
“It is maybe painful and unpalatable to others who may also want to contest to become MPs”, Lawyer Obiri Boahen added urging supporters of all disqualified aspirants to embrace such a decision from the party’s NEC.
