Bawku: There’s No Militia Training Ongoing- Police
The Ghana Police Service has denied allegations of ongoing militia training in Bawku in the Upper East Region.
This is the second time a publication about alleged militia training has caught the attention of the police.
Just like the first, the police said it followed the lead to the cited venue, however, they found no traces of a militia training.
“The Ghana Police Service has noted with concern a publication alleging the training of some militiamen at Bawku in the Upper East Region. We wish to state that our investigation has found no evidence of such training in the area or its environs.”
It acknowledged that the disinformation being peddled through social media is “intended to create unnecessary alarm and panic among the public” and therefore has in place efforts to unmask the perpetrators.
“The Police are working to bring the perpetrators to book and the public should be assured that we will get them.”
In a similar statement earlier this week, the police debunked a news item to the effect that a militia group is camping and training in Kwahu in the Eastern Region in preparation for the 2024 General Elections.
It also warned against the publication and dissemination of fake news.
