Auditor General Orders KATH To Retrieve ¢341K From 4 Staff Members

The Auditor General has ordered the Chief Executive Officer for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to retrieve some GH¢341,624.23 from four of its staff members for failing to return to the hospital after benefitting from Study leave with pay.

According to the 2021 Audit report on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the four staff members were granted study leave with pay to pursue various courses of studies within and outside the country.

It notes that a total sponsorship package of GH¢341,624.23 was spent on them; however, “they failed to return to the Hospital to serve after the end of their respective study periods”.

The four are Bernice Tuffour Boateng (senior staff Nursing HSS from the Anaesthesia I C Directorate), Doctor Evelyn Mawunyo Jiagge (Specialist HSS from Surgery Directorate), Ms Rita Appiah (Midwifery Office from O and Go Directorate), Ms Jennifer Agyemang (Nursing Office HSS from Medicine Directorate).

“We recommended to the Chief Executive Officer to enforce the sponsorship agreements entered between the Hospital and the applicants and recover the total amount of GH¢341,624.23 from the officers or their guarantors and pay same into the Consolidated Fund without delay”, the A-G noted in the report.
