ASEPA Boss Granted GHC50k Bail

The Chief Executive Director for the Alliance For Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson has been granted a sum of GHC50,000 bail with two sureties by the Kaneshie District Court in Accra.

Additionally, the ASEPA boss must report twice each week, to the Investigations Officer at the Teshie District Police Command.

He has been slapped with charges of publication of false news and offensive conduct.

His arrest and detention followed allegations he made about the presidential jet in January 2022 but later retracted and apologised for.

It can be recalled that the Ghana Armed Forces, in a statement to refute the allegations of Thompson noted that it had referred the case to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for investigation.

Background

The ASEPA boss in a Facebook post claimed Ghana’s “abandoned” Presidential Jet had been used by “spoilt youngsters” relating to the president for a trip to the UK and a “sky party” during the Christmas festivity.

He later posted after having “an extensive conversation with the PRO of the Ghana Armed Forces” saying: “In the same medium I made the earlier publication, I withdrew the publication pending an official response from the GCAA. I unreservedly apologise to the Ghana Armed Forces if their image was in any way affected by my publication. We shall put out for your consumption the response to our request from the GCAA records of the Falcon 900-EX.”
