Asanteman Joins Otumfuo to Mourn Niece
Asanteman showed their high regard and respect for their King on Thursday, June 27, 2024 which was set aside by the Occupant of the Golden Stool, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the burial and funeral rites of his niece, Madam Grace Ahenkro.
They came in numbers and in grace to sympathise with the Monarch and the royal family at the funeral held at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
It was a black affair at the Palace as all including the King were clad in Kuntunkuni, the official mourning attire of Asantes.
Before moving to the funeral grounds, His Majesty paid his last respects to the deceased who laid in state at the Palace of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III inside the Manhyia Palace.
Otumfuo took his place in state after this and received the homage and sympathies from the family, various traditional authorities and officials in the region.
Present at the funeral were traditional authorities including Tredehene Nana Nuben Sra III, Nkawie Kumahene Nana Gyedu Kumani IV, Oheneba Nana Kwame Akoto, Ejisuhemaa Nana Yaa Asantewaa and the Mayor of Kumasi, Sam Pyne.
Known as Nana Grace Ahenkro, the niece of the King and royal of the Oyoko clan died on May 21, 2024 at 80 years at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
Her remains will be laid to rest later today after a service is held for her at the St Annes Anglican Church at Ash-Town.

Madam Grace was born to Nana Ama Saa and Opanin Kofi Ahenkro Antwi in 1944 and was the fourth of 11 children of the couple.
She began elementary education at Adum Presbyterian School where she ended her educational journey. From there, she worked as a healthcare assistant before venturing into a commercial trade in eggs.
Before her death, she lived at Oti Wood Village. She is survived by three children, two males and a female.
