Asantehene Commissions Renovated House Of Chiefs Building

The overlord of Asante Kingdom, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has commissioned an ultra modern National House of Chiefs building at Manhyia.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 16th Asantehene, ruler of Asanteman and the Empire of Asante was the Special Guest at the short yet colorful ceremony for the usage of the facility to facilitate the work of the National House of Chiefs.

The National of Chiefs building was in a dilapidated state but it has seen an astronomical ravishing facelift to host the traditional leaders.

Delivering his speech at the august occasion, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II reaffirmed that the building which was donated by his uncle, Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh II, the Asantehene will not be taken back.
“When the National House of Chiefs was created in 1969 by the 1969 Constitution, there was a need for an office complex to accommodate the house and my uncle, Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh II donated the building to the house for its activity. So, it was a donation to the house and therefore, I don’t want people to say that I am coming to take the property. A donation in perpetuity, not in my time and any Asantehene’s time are we going to take this property back.”

The highly revered King continued that” we have a duty to preserve, protect and project the Chieftancy institution the best of our heritage which is the essence of the Chieftancy institution. The relevance of the National House of Chiefs in general will be judged by how Chiefs themselves conduct their affairs to the benefit of their people and Ghana as a whole.”

He further quizzed why the National House of Chiefs should relegate their position as peacemakers for Civil Society Organizations to take over. “Why should the National House of Chiefs relegate the position of National House of Chiefs as peacemakers and yet Civil Organizations are now calling for peace, and calling for politicians to resolve whatever differences when the National House of Chiefs exist.”
“We troop to politicians begging them for certain things, so we are divided in the front. You have to be united. You should know the essence of Chieftancy. Let the politicians come to you for advice. Let them come to you for direction. If we don’t do that go for our petty benefits and whatever, you sell your heritage to the politicians.”

The commissioning of the renovated National House of Chiefs edifice which cost Ghc3.5 million was graced by the President of National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asoggli State, Asante Mamponghene Daasebere Osei Bonsu, Minister of Security, Hon. Kan Dapaa, Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, Board Chairman of Minerals Commission, S.K.
