Asantehene At 23: Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Has Been A Blessing To Ghana – Nana Otuo Serebuo II.
The Paramount Chief of Juaben and the Chairman of the Council of State, Nana Otuo Serebuo II has revealed that the enstoolment of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been a blessing to Asanteman and Ghana at large.
According to him, he was part of Otumfuo’s entourage that met with the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2000 to discuss the many developmental projects between the two countries and also to strengthen the relationship between the United Kingdom and the Asante Kingdom.
Nana Otuo Serebuo went on to say that after their meeting with the British Queen, the Asantehene met with the British Council, which resulted in the rehabilitation of the Barekese Dam, which had become clogged with sand and was on the verge of collapsing.
The Council of State Chairman further stated that during President Kufuor’s tenure, the World Bank would have removed Ghana from its HIPC program, but due to Otumfuo’s good relationship with the World Bank’s then President, Ghana was allowed to remain in the program which benefited the country at the end.
He also extolled Otumfuo for his contribution that help Ghana to secure a loan from the IMF for the betterment of the Ghanaian economy during Mahama’s era.
Nana Otuo Serebuo however charged chiefs to develop the habit of sticking to the main reasons why they have been enstooled as traditional leaders to serve the people saying that, “chieftaincy is about serving”.
“If you serve the people well, they will also serve you. However, if you don’t serve them well, you will also lack respect from your subjects”.
When Otumfuo ascended the Golden Stool, I had spent twenty-six years on the Juaben Stool. However, I have served him as my king till now. So chieftaincy is about serving and bringing development to your community, he concluded.
