Arise Ghana Demo Underway

The Arise Ghana group is currently on the streets of Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Some of the protestors are clad in red with others in black.

The coalition of various groups is on the streets to register its displeasure at the “worsening economic situation” of the country.

Arise Ghana is demonstrating against the hikes in fuel prices; imposition of the obnoxious E-Levy; police brutalities and state-sponsored killing of innocent Ghanaians; and the de-classification of huge portions of the Achimota Forest Reserve.

The group also wants a full-scale and bi-partisan parliamentary probe into COVID-19 expenditures.

The group converged at the Obra Spot in Accra and will end at the Independence Square at exactly 4 pm after it has handed over its petition (if any) to an official from the presidency as directed by the Accra High Court.

Joining the protest were some National Democratic Congress members.

Some placards on display say, “Russia-Ukraine War, Ghana is not at war, reduce fuel prices and stop the excuses”, “Ghana Police Service is not an extension of government, stop using them as hound men”, “Probe covid-19 expenditure now”, etc.

The protest will continue tomorrow from 8 am to 4 pm.

Meanwhile, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo is in Portugal attending the 2022 UN Oceans Conference in Lisbon and is expected to return tomorrow, June 29, 2022.
