Akufo-Addo Deposes Adwoa Sarfo As Minister For Gender

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has stripped Sarah Adwoa Sarfo’s position as a Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

This was communicated by the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin.

Although the Jubilee House did not disclose the reason behind the revocation of her appointment by the President, it is inferred that it is due to calls from a section of the public to have her deposed due to her absence from the post.

She will be replaced by the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaa as the Caretaker Minister for the Ministry of Gender.

This comes in the wake of Parliament’s process to unseat her as a Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya constituency or otherwise due to her absence without the permission of the Speaker.

In 2021, Adwoa Sarfo sought a leave of absence from the President to travel to the United States of America for personal reasons which would have ended on August 31, 2022.

She later wrote to the Head of State seeking an extension which was granted in a communique dated October 6, 2021, signed by Eugene Arhin.

The President, through Arhin, directed Abena Dapaa take over the Ministry of Gender as the Caretaker Minister.
