Abetifi MP Responsible For Scarce Info On Presidential Travels

Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Bryan Acheampong has revealed he is behind the limited information in the public domain about the president’s travels.

He confessed on the floor of Parliament during day 2 of the Parliamentary debate on the 2022 budget statement.

Bryan Acheampong noted that he advised the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaa to hold his lips when it comes to that topic.

“In my capacity as a member of Parliament, with some knowledge on security matters, Mr. Speaker, I have advised the Minister of National Security to continue to keep the Information on the presidential travels secret and if we may lift it to top-secret because it is not every information that can be divulged to the public”, he stated.

He believes the travels of the President should be handled with discretion so long as it is brought up in a political context.

“Mr. Speaker, the vehicle that the president travels in is inconsequential in these matters for as long as we want to play politics with it.”

He disclosed that “Hitherto it was confidential that could be shared, now it has been classified as secret and I have encouraged him to increase the security level to top-secret because that information cannot be placed in the political arena.”

Meanwhile, MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has been demanding the account of the president’s travels to Europe and South Africa in May following allegations that Airbus ACJ320neo owned by Acropolis Aviation and costing a sum of £15,000 per hour was used instead of the presidential jet.

He filed an urgent question for Kan Dapaa to give account after the Finance Minister failed to render the account and directed the House to consult the Minister for National Security.

However, on the date for appearance in Parliament, Kan Dapaa wrote to the House stating that he had to travel outside the jurisdiction.
