A/R: Take The Jab So They Don’t Expire- Regional Health Director
Authorities seem worried over reluctance on the part of Ghanaians to take COVID-19 vaccines. The worry doesn’t seem to come from fear of the spread of the virus and a record of a third wave in the country alone.
Bu also, the fear that the vaccines currently in the country might expire, such was the message indirectly put across during the launch of the Vaccination Month in the Ashanti region today, December 6.
The Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang during the event, reiterated the aim of vaccinating over half a million residents in the Ashanti region.
“We aim at vaccinating over 500,000, that is, over half a million of the population of the Ashanti Region by the end of December.”
He said, “We thought our only problem was in securing the vaccine but we have realized people are reluctant to get the jab.”
“Disregard conspiracy theories surrounding the vaccines. Let’s go in our numbers for the jabs. The vaccines have expiry dates. I urge everyone to take the Jab so that none of the vaccines expire here in the Ashanti region”, he added.
As part of measures to get people to take the jab, the Ministry says it will undertake a house-to-house operation as well as visit mosques, churches, and lorry stations. “We will come to you with our vaccines.”
CHPS compounds, health centres, and hospitals have been made vaccination points, he said.
Ghana has secured thousands of doses of vaccines including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, etc through the COVAX facility since early 2021.
The region’s active cases stand at 6.
