A/R: Police Draw Public Attention To Car-Stealing Syndicates

The police in the Ashanti region have warned vehicle owners and drivers to be wary of a car-stealing syndicate currently operating in the region.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, A.S.P. Godwin Ahianyo, the gang actively monitor, trail, and steal cars with their ignition on and left unattended.

“The Modus of this syndicate is to trail their victims to a distance and drive off their vehicles the moment they park for a short period.

The Police Command has assured that it is closing in on the syndicate.

“The Police would like to use this medium to entreat the general public, especially drivers not to let their guards down. Instead, they should endeavor to turn off their engine whenever they stop at any point of their journeys and remove the ignition key immediately after they turn off the engine.

“Drivers should be vigilant and not hesitate to raise alarm on the least suspicion when they are being trailed by any suspicious character (s). 6. Owners of vehicles are also advised to install tracking devices in their vehicles to facilitate their interception when stolen.”

This came after two gunmen who, at gunpoint, snatched a red Toyota Corolla from its owner with a baby trapped inside.
The incident happened at Santasi, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The vehicle was retrieved after the alleged snatchers abandoned it at Dakodwom, following a chase by the police patrol team on Sunday, January 16, 2022.
