A/R: 3 Nabbed Over NDC Election Riot

Three persons have been arrested by the police in the Ashanti region over a riot that ensued during the internal elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the weekend.

The suspects include a female.

They have been identified as Yahya Shaibu Tia, Fati Ibrahim and Husien Yakubu alias Jarlune.

They were arrested on Sunday, November 13, 2022, for allegedly engaging in violent disturbances.

“The suspects and their accomplices were involved in different offences including assault on a Police officer, spraying pepper from a device onto some persons at the centre and engaging in a fight resulting in injuries to one of the perpetrators.”

The suspects are currently assisting in investigations, according to a statement from the police.

Meanwhile, the police say they are pursuing other suspects.

Some videos of the election portray fisticuffs among the crowd at the voting centres.

Nobya FM posted a video of what it described as “free blows” at the NDC regional conference held at the Nalerigu Senior High School.

Another video posted by Graphic Online at an unidentified venue where the election was also taking place showed a similar thing.

Throughout all the videos, police officers were spotted amidst the uncontrollable crowd trying to restore order.
