National Security Launches Security Education Campaign Dubbed; “See Something, Say Something”
The National Security yesterday, 25th May 2022 launched the “Citizen Education Campaign” on security awareness on all forms of terrorist activities that have been involved in the sub region.
Minister of Information and MP for Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah speaking at the event, said, we need to let the people be aware of the challenge and the need to be responsible in taking steps to deal with it collectively.
According to him, “if we will be successful in combatting the threats that we face, we need the total mobilization of our people to recognize those threats, to be alert and to play their parts in protecting our motherland”
He insisted that, the focus and purpose of the event is to get the people of Ghana to understand the nature of the terrorism phenomenon and how to respond effectively by assisting the Security and Intelligent Agencies to respond appropriately, which he called on the media to ethically promote the education on their respective platforms to keep the citizenry informed not in fear but to deepen understanding.
The Minister also called on religious groups, stakeholders, associations, and others to get the message to their members in order for everyone to play their role in dealing with the situation.
On the issue, also speaking at the launch, the Minister of National Security, Hon. Kan Dapaah also asserted that, the “see something, say something” campaign is a critical security measure deployed by the National Security Council to deal with the recent security threats in the West African Sub-Region and Ghana precisely.
According to him, the primary focus of this measure is to empower Ghanaians to be more conscious of their own security and enhance their relationship with the State Security and Intelligence Agencies.
He emphasized that, the “See Something, Say Something” campaign is among the numerous security measures employed by the government to safeguard the country against the recent terrorist attack in the sub-region.
Hon. Kan Dapaah stated that, the campaign is not to create fear and panic among the citizenry but rather to put confidence in them to report any suspicious terrorist activities to authorities.
