“I Was Not Paid Any Amount When I Released My Road Safety Campaign Song”: Obour Reveals

Bice Osei Kuffuor, the Acting Managing Director of Ghana Posts and a former MUSIGA President, has disclosed that he was not paid when he released his road safety campaign song in 2005, but that his campaign song significantly reduced the number of accidents during that period.

According to the musician, it was UT Bank Services that aided him in his campaign by providing him with 8,000 cedis (GHc8,000) as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to promote road safety.

In an interview with George Opoku Mensah (Agudey) on Nkwantananso Show, he reiterated his motivation to do the road safety campaign song in 2005.

He said the death of Ghanaian musician Terry Bonchaka through road accident on the University of Ghana highway who happens to be his friend pushed him to start a road safety campaign song. However, he was motivated in 2004 when his car had a gory accident and three people perished at the scene.

“I started road safety campaign in 2003 when my friend Terry Bonchaka died through road accident, however, I was motivated in 2004 when my car had an accident and three people perished at the spot”.

However, he added that road safety campaigns should be a policy by all media stations as part of the social responsibility to educate the masses to adhere to safety measures when driving on the road.

“Road Safety Campaign is not only the responsibility of government, but it is also the responsibility of everyone. Community Radio stations should also involve themselves in the campaign. Road Safety campaign is an unending project”.

He concluded by charging the National Road Safety Authority to sensitize road users every month and make sure there is a road safety campaign signboard on the road every 20 kilometers.
