Ghana Police “Face Covering” Takes Effect

The Ghana Police Service has begun covering faces of suspects yet to be convicted by a law court.

The practice of “professionalism” began moments after the announcement was made through a Facebook post.

This, it says, is in line with the GPS aim of becoming “a world-class Police organization and the best institution in the country, serving as a reference point in Africa and beyond”.

“In view of this, we have resolved to no longer show or display faces of suspects who are yet to be convicted. The faces and identities of suspects shall be fully displayed only when the suspects are properly convicted before a competent court of law”, the statement put out on Sunday, December 5 said.

However, suspects who are declared wanted by the courts with a warrant of arrest for various acts of offense, shall, where necessary, have their faces and other physical attributes published for purposes of identification, arrest, and prosecution.

Following the release of the statement, all announcements on arrests have come with faces of suspects covered.
