9 Burkinabes Busted In Ghana For Kidnapping
Nine Burkinabe nationals are in the grips of the Central Regional Police Command for allegedly luring citizens of neighbouring countries into Ghana and then subsequently kidnapping them.
According to the regional command, victims are lured with the promise of securing jobs in the mining sector of the country.
The nine are being investigated for human trafficking, abetment of kidnapping, kidnapping, unlawful entry into the country and residing in Ghana without valid documents.
They were busted by personnel from the Regional CID in Abura in the Central region where they were operating.
According to the Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwadwo Antwi Tabi, a victim was rescued in the raid.
“A search conducted in the room led to the discovery of 16 cell phones, 1 hp laptop and 7 exercise books containing chart graphs. Investigations have revealed that the suspects entered the country illegally and worked for Q-net network marketing company without a working permit.”
He recounted that “the suspects lured their victims from neighbouring countries into Ghana with the promise of offering them lucrative jobs in the mining sector through the Q-net marketing company. As part of the employment requirements, victims are asked to carry some amount of money when coming to Ghana. On their arrival, the suspects take the said amount and kidnap them.”
The police further cautioned the general public against false job opportunities.
“The command would like to take this opportunity to warn foreigners who enter the country to perpetrate such crimes. You will not be spared when caught. We also remind members of the public to cross-check all information on employment opportunities with the appropriate institutions to keep them from falling victims”, he added.
