Curfew Imposed on Nkwanta
The Ministry of Interior has imposed a curfew on the residents of Nkwanta in the Oti Region following the renewal of a chieftaincy conflict last weekend that resulted in the death of three persons.
The curfew will be in effect from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am, starting January 21.
“The Minister for the Interior has on the advice of the Oti Regional Security Council and by the Executive Instrument imposed curfew on Nkwanta Township in the Oti Region from 8:00 pm – 6:00 am effective Tuesday, January 21, 2025.”
In a statement, it appealed to all to exercise restraint and to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes.
Additionally, it kept in force a ban on residents against carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons.
It said, “any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted”.
