Assin Kushea Woman Returns to School at 53

Vida Obeng, a 53-year-old woman, has enrolled in Junior High School at Assin Kushea Anglican School to acquire basic literacy skills that she has long desired but never had the opportunity to learn.

As a trader, Vida has always felt a sense of shame and inadequacy due to her inability to read and write.

She confessed that even simple tasks like saving a phone number on her mobile phone were beyond her capabilities.

This realization sparked a desire in her to seek education, no matter her age.

Vida’s decision to return to school is all the more remarkable given her family circumstances. She is a married woman with three children, all of whom have achieved varying levels of educational success.

Her firstborn has completed nursing training, her second-born is currently in university, and her youngest has completed JHS.

Despite her family’s accomplishments, Vida felt a deep sense of regret and embarrassment about her own lack of education.

However, instead of allowing these feelings to hold her back, she has chosen to take bold action and enroll in school.

Her decision to pursue education at 53 is an inspiration to people of all ages, and a reminder that it’s never too late to learn and grow.

As Vida herself said, “I’m ashamed that I couldn’t even save a phone number on my phone. But I’m determined to learn and become a better person. I want to be able to read and write, and to be proud of myself.”

Vida’s classmates, who are significantly younger than her, have been supportive and encouraging.

“We are happy to have her in our class,” said one of her classmates.

“She is very determined and enthusiastic, and we are learning a lot from her.”

Vida’s family is also proud of her decision to pursue education.

“We are very supportive of her,” said her husband.

“We know it’s not easy, but we believe in her and we know she will succeed.”

When asked about her experience in school so far, Vida said, “It’s been challenging, but I’m enjoying it. I’m learning new things every day, and I’m proud of myself for taking this step.”

As Vida looks to the future, she is filled with hope and excitement.

“I’m excited to see where this journey takes me,” she said.

“I’m proud of myself for taking this step, and I know that I will succeed.”
